While you can adjust employee leave at an individual level you'll save a lot of time if you make sure that the company defaults are correct first. So, how generous are you feeling?
- Head over to the settings page by clicking on the 'More' button at the bottom of your screen and selecting 'Company Settings' from the list.
- Open the Team dropdown and select the 'Time Off' tab.
- Update any necessary settings, then click the save button at the top of the screen
- The 'Name' field allows you to choose how Annual Leave is referenced in the 'Type of leave' dropdown when adding leave. If your employees are used to referring to it as 'Holiday' or 'Time Off' instead of Leave then this is the place to set it.
- 'Runs from' allows you to choose which month the holiday year starts on.
- The 'Default leave approver' is the member of staff who will automatically be set as the leave approver for any new employees.
- 'Default leave allowance' is the standard number of days of annual leave that you offer. This will be applied automatically when you add new employees but you'll be able to adjust it on a case-by-case basis.
- 'Leave notice required' controls how many days' notice an employee needs to give when booking leave.
- The 'Unavailability' section allows you to choose whether employees can log when they're unavailable but don't wish to specifically book leave, for instance if they work part-time and have other commitments in addition to their shifts. You can specify how far in advance your team need to commit to unavailability as well to prevent them from adding it at the last minute and throwing out your schedule.
- The 'Absences' section lets you choose whether employees can record sicknesses and other unexpected absences.
- The 'Hourly Staff' section lets you set how many hours the average employee works each day. You can still edit it on a person-by-person basis, but when new employees are added they'll default to whatever you set here.
