How do I respond to an employee's leave request? (Desktop)

Modified on Wed, 29 Nov 2023 at 05:21 PM

If you have leave enabled on your account and you're the holiday approver for any employees you'll be responsible for choosing whether to approve or reject their leave requests. Depending on your notification settings you'll receive an email and a notification whenever an employee assigned to you requests leave.

If you're an employee's line manager or have sufficient permissions you'll also be able to go to an employee's profile and respond to any leave requests, in case the holiday approver isn't available.

  1. If you've received an email regarding the leave request you should click on the link that it contains. If not, click on the in-tray icon in the bottom left of your screen when logged in to Shiftie and click on the leave request notification.
  2. You will be taken to the employee's leave overview. Click the View button to the right of the pending record.
  3. Review the leave request and click the 'Leave around these dates - View' button if you want to see if any other employees have time booked around the same time.
    1. You can also click the 'Edit' button at the top of the screen if you need to make amendments to the leave request itself before approving it.
  4. Once you've made a decision, click either the 'Deny Request' or 'Approve Request' button as appropriate.
  5. You'll be given the option to write an explanation for your decision, and then to confirm; your decision and the reason for it will be emailed to the employee, so no pressure.
